Immersion: EU Parliament (EP) and European Court of Human Rights (ECHR)

Week of May 19 – 23: Geneva, Switzerland
Class Location: United Nations and/or other sites
Immersion: Attend and lobby at United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child

Subjects: United Nations law, the development of treaties, and international customary law
Weeks of May 24 – June 2: Gaming, Austria
Class Location: Kartause, Gaming (Franciscan University of Steubenville Campus)
Immersion: Side trips to Vienna; Melk (Monastery); Mariazell (Marian Shrine);
Subjects: US human rights law and Catholic Social Teaching
Note: For those students who wish to stay in Europe for the entire summer, there are internship opportunities available with the European Parliament, public interest law firms, non-profit organizations, and ISHRI. Internship credits may be available with student’s home institutions.
Course Development: This course builds upon a human rights class taught by 4 instructors including Scarnecchia and McKeegan in the Fall of 2004 at Franciscan University of Steubenville (FUS).
Cost: $2400 (Includes Lodging and 1 meal/day; 3 meals/day in Gaming, as well as all transportation within Europe)
