ISHRI Capital to Village Immersion: Washington Policy Making, International Relations, and Humanitarian Work in Mexico
Washington DC, San Diego, and Tijuana
June 26 – July 7, 2006

Part of the charism of the Franciscan Way is inspiring people in the integration of Franciscan simplicity, outreach to the poor, and social justice.

This program combines:
Training in International relations, public policy, and human rights. 
Works of Mercy in Tijuana, including building a house for a family
Visits to the Basilicas in Washington and San Diego

The first segment in Washington D.C. (June 26 -30) considers the basis for the Church’s teaching about human rights and her perspective on international questions, examining human rights and other moral issues in U.S. foreign policy and international forums.  Featured will be meetings with several Congressmen, the Council on Foreign Relations, and members of public policy organizations, as well as talks by officials from Capitol Hill, the White House, the State Department, the Justice Department, and tours of all of those institutions.
In the second segment (June 30 - July 5) we will build a complete house for a family in poverty stricken Tijuana and perform other works of mercy, and visit the first California mission in San Diego.
The third segment (July 6 -7)  will encompass two more days in Washingtona  and include a private tour and lecture at the Supreme Court, and a report of our activities in Mexico to officials in Washington.

Deadline: June 6th. Students must pay a non-refundable deposit of 1/3 of the cost by this date. Balance due 6/15.
Cost:
Full Program $2400 (Includes airfare between Washington DC  and San Diego, all ground                                                   transportation, all accomodations, breakfast and lunch,and house bulding materials.OR

Students may earn up to three internship credits through Franciscan University.
